1. Why Not - Examples of using everyday ingenuity to solve problems. Visitors can enter good ideas for others to read and rate. Great site. Find some good ideas you can use. They also provide good suggestions for improving your abilities.

2. How Stuff Works - Excellent site. Learn how things work in the world around you: how do car engines work, what do gears do, what makes the inside of your refrigerator cold, how do cell phones work...

3. ehow - "Clear Instructions on How To Do (just about) Everything"

4. Why Files from the University of Wisconsin - Madison - An easy to navigate site with interesting segments on how science works in our lives. Another instance of the government doing well (funded by the National Institute for Science Education and National Science Foundation).

5. Discovery Channel Online - A site packed with great stuff but like most mega sites finding what you are interested in can be difficult (again our bias for easy to use content clashes with those more concerned with cool looking sites). Not perfect but still a valuable

6. The Teaching Company - Mission: "To ignite the passion for lifelong learning by offering great courses taught by great professors." They sell great audio and video recordings of lectures by the world experts on a wide variety of topics including: science, history,

7. National Geographic - Similar to what you would expect. Very visually appealing and full of useful info but could use some help work on useability.

8. NASA - Another government site that shows the governmnet can do things right. Another large site that could use a better navigation structure.

9. Guide to Grammar and Style - Quite a well done guide on a topic that is not too exciting to me. Still this guide does a nice job of providing useful informaiton well.

10. Elderhostel - Elderhostel is a nonprofit organization providing educational adventures all over the world to adults aged 55 and over. A huge listing of learning and travel oportunities.
